The Israel Experience at Bar Ilan University
The Israel Experience at Bar Ilan University provides students with an independent, dynamic dorm life, advanced Judaic and general studies and credits that are recognized by various North American universities. Students benefit from the perks of a small, hands-on program and a top notch university’s infrastructure and resources.
Classes are held on campus 4 mornings per week. Judaic courses are provided at advanced and beginner levels every morning. Students can also choose from various options, including Philosophy, Tanach, Contemporary Jewish Law, Talmud and more.
Afternoon courses that are taught in English reflect the usual freshman course load in many North American universities. English, Science, Business, Law, Psychology, Management, Medicine and Histor are some of the academic options offered. Afternoon courses combine leadership opportunities, field trips and general university studies.
The Israel Experience at Bar Ilan University is an advanced gap year program that provides students with an opportunity to strengthen their Jewish identity. The program consists of extraordinary trips across the Land of Israel, inspiring university courses, educational Shabbatons in spectacular sites, inspirational Jewish growth and learning at the students’ own pace and an energetic group of remarkable teachers, rabbis and friends.
The Israel Experience at Bar Ilan University is the perfect program for students who are looking for an all-around experience that combines connecting with astounding role models, university Jewish learning and growth and experiencing what the Land of Israel can offer. The program is approved by MASA and is part of the Yeshiva University Joint Israel Program.
All Jewish students are open to enroll in the program, regardless of their background or level of spiritual observance. Prospective students are required to be seriously interested to explore their heritage. They must also observe the program’s expectations and rules, including customary Orthodox observance of good behavior, modest dress, kashrut and Shabbat.
Interested applicants are required to submit the following:
• Good ACT or SAT results
• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Positive recommendations
• Excellent high school academic record
• Personal interviews with Israel Experience staff
Their online application also needs to include two jpg photos, 3 full references, test results and transcripts. Applicants are required to pay an application fee of $180. Once accepted, they receive regular informational updates and packets. They can also contact the university’s staff anytime for additional help regarding the program.
The tuition fee for the whole academic year is $22,500. This includes all classes, credits, night activities, internships, dormitory and trips. Additional costs to consider include health insurance, international airfare, meal plan, school supplies and textbooks and other living expenses.
Students can also apply for several financial aids including MASA Grants, Early Registration Discount, US Federal Grants, Need Based Grants, NCSY/JSU Grant and Academic Grants.
