The Shaindy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Bar-Ilan University
The Shandy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing is a lure for English-speaking Israelis, Jews and non-Jews from around the globe. This program is housed at Bar-Ilan University. It provides an Master of Arts in English with specialization in creative non-fiction, poetry or literary fiction.
The course is designed to help students who are seriously dedicated to their writing to hone their craft further. It is also perfect for students who want to become a productive creative writer, through grounding in the practical and theoretical aspects of writing.
All students taking creative writing in the fiction track are required to take three graduate creative writing workshops and three graduate literature seminars. During their 1st year, they will take the William Solomon Jewish Arts Seminar. Then, students may take 1 graduate artistic non-fiction workshops during their second year.
Students taking poetry track and creative non-fiction track are obliged to take 3 to 4 graduate workshops in their genre more than two years. Additionally, they must take two or three graduate literature seminars. The fundamental requirements are valid for students who don’t have to take several requirements.
Each two year courses are offered in Hebrew and English. However, one-year options are also available with permission of the program director.
The Shaindy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing accepts countless students from different places in the world. They welcome students of all ages from Zimbabwe, Australia, United States, South Africa, Ireland, Canada, Finland, Germany, Brazil, Denmark, Israel and UK.
All interested students must be a Bachelor of Arts degree or have an equivalent educational level. Students with other majors as undergraduates or graduates may also asked to take additional courses.
The tuition for Israelis is identified by the Government of Israel. In 2013 to 2014, the estimated fee for the MA is $27,500 and $9000 for students from abroad. This includes additional charges for security and student services.
Students are charged based on the number of classes they take every semester. At the end of the 2-year period, the first summer workshop is considered part of the tuition. In case the student does not finish the thesis within the given period, he must ask for an extension from the M.A. committee and pay at least 10% of the yearly fee.
Apart from tuition fees, students from other places must consider the following expenses:
• Transportation to and from Israel
• Transportation from Jerusalem or from Tel Aviv
• Health Insurance
